The marvelous parable of the Prodigal or Lost Son brought tears to my eyes when I read it last week for the 20th, the 50th, the 100th time. No matter how often we hear this story, God always seems to be telling us something new.
Here are some questions we can ask ourselves:
Have we ever felt entitled to something--a big and beautiful house; a well-paying job; a luxurious vacation; the admiration and respect of everyone who knows us; kids who are great at sports; money, money, and more money?
Have we ever found ourselves in a desperate situation of our own making?
Have we judged our fellow sinners, while feeling superior to them? Have we felt anger and resentment toward someone whose thoughts and actions were far from what God wants of us, but who turned their life around?
Do we really know how much God loves us and how much God wants us to turn our lives around?
