Our Gospel tells of Jairus, the religious leader who falls in the dust at Jesus’s feet. He begs Jesus to lay hands on his daughter that she may live. As Jesus goes to honor his request he feels his power drain from him. He asked, “Who touched me?” A woman who had bled for 12 years, who no doctor was able to help, trembled in grateful awe before Jesus. He said, “Daughter your faith has saved you.” Jesus then continued on to Jairus’ home where everyone thought his daughter had died. His mere invitation to rise was all she needed to hear. That is the way it is with us and every human being throughout the world. Jesus invites us to rise and see that others have what is needed to do the same.
Throughout the world the church also prays today with Wisdom, reminding us we are made in God’s image! And we hear Paul’s 2nd letter to the Corinthians tell us we excel in faith, discourse, knowledge and in the love God has for us. Paul stresses our equality is real, as we share so that those with much do not have more and those with little do not have less.
